JABA Volunteers Again Aiding with Medicare Open Enrollment

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR), October 17, 2018  -The Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) is once again hard at work helping people adjust their Medicare plans.

Since open enrollment began Monday, October 15, 45 volunteer counselors at JABA have already helped 112 clients save a total of $50,000 on their Medicare plans through free consultations.

JABA says it is important for everyone on Medicare to update their plan each year during open enrollment or else it could change without them knowing it and prescriptions might no longer be covered.

“A lot of people think that they don’t need to change anything because they haven’t changed anything. But every year the insurance that they have changes their plan to a new version, so you get a new version starting January 1 that may not fit your needs,” said JABA Community Services Manager Randy Rodgers.

Open enrollment for Medicare runs until December 7.

The consultations at JABA are free, but appointments are filling up fast. Call 434-817-5248 to schedule an appointment. Watch here.
