Want to help in our public schools? FISH
JABA’s Friends In Schools Helping (FISH) Program is an intergenerational program that matches volunteers of all ages with opportunities in our public schools. Currently, FISH volunteers are helping students and teachers as tutors (especially reading and math), breakfast and lunch buddies, and in after school programs. There is a special need for FISH volunteers to assist students for whom English is a second language. As a FISH volunteer, you can work directly with a student as a tutor or mentor, or you can help a teacher, librarian or office staff with administrative tasks.
To find a volunteer opportunity at a school near your home or work, please contact Marguerite David at (434) 817-5229 or by e-mail
