Mountainside Senior Living

Mountainside is one of the few affordable assisted living facilities in Central Virginia and the only one managed by JABA. JABA is committed to keeping it an affordable home, where elders can share a life with each other. For a quick explanation of the great offerings provided at Mountainside, please click here.
We have a dedicated local staff, and take pride that our residents are still a part of their community. They feel connected – to each other, to those who care for them, and to the lives they share. The drug store, a grocery store, the post office and restaurants are all within walking distance. And best of all, the new Albemarle County library, only a block away and due to open in 2008, will provide even more opportunities for residents to become a part of where they live.
Located in the heart of downtown Crozet, VA, Mountainside is a fixture in this small community, an historical part of a true small town. We are nestled among orchards in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a lovely 25 minute drive west from Charlottesville, and “just over the mountain” from the Shenandoah Valley community of Waynesboro. History

In 2006, JABA was awarded an Aging Innovations Award from the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging for its role in reviving Mountainside four years ago. The story is an example of JABA’s commitment to our seniors, to the town of Crozet, and to the value of a local community.
With only 30 days to act and no experience in Assisted Living, JABA stepped in when the former owners were forced to sell out. Pulling together an unprecedented variety of local and national resources, and skillfully marshalling local community support, JABA was able to not only save the home of 140 residents, but to save the jobs of over 40 people as well. JABA set up a separate organization, Jefferson Elder Care (JEC) to keep the facility up and running long into the future.
“Saving Mountainside was just the right thing to do,” says JABA CEO Gordon Walker. “There was no place locally for the residents who were receiving auxiliary grants from the state to go. The closing would have left a huge hole in area assisted living.”
Today Mountainside Senior Living is thriving, and provides a comfortable, affordable home for up to 114 residents. With more than 50 people on the payroll, Mountainside is the second largest employer in Crozet.
With national recognition for doing the right thing, JABA’s commitment to providing an affordable place to live for seniors continues unfazed and unabated.
