About Assisted Living
Assisted Living Facilities are licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services Division of Licensing to provide residential, and/or assisted living care for four or more adults. An assisted living facility provides room, meals and care for independently mobile, semi- mobile and/or nonambulatory residents. Assisted living facilities are not considered medical facilities. Older adults with mental or physical disabilities usually need some supervision or assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, bowel control, bladder control and eating. A person's degree of independence in performing these activities is a part of determining appropriate level of care of services.
