1. Who is your counterpart in Richmond?

The Richmond Area Agency on Aging is Senior Connections, http://www.seniorconnections-va.org/

2. Does JABA only help "seniors" or are some programs aimed at younger people.

JABA works with people of all ages, in one way or another. For instance, our Cool Aid program offers air conditioners to people of all ages with documented medical needs, and our Volunteer office can link up people of any age with appropriate volunteer opportunities. Also, many of our programs that serve seniors also serve their caregivers. These would include our adult day healthcare centers and Club Pathway, both of which can provide respite time for tired caregivers no matter what their ages.

3. Will JABA serve people at all income levels?

Yes. Although JABA may be known for our many services to low income residents, our mission includes helping every elder in the community. For instance, our assistance with the Medicare Part D enrollment process as not limited; anyone who asked was assisted. Also, we offer a variety of services that can help anyone at any income level, including care coordination, adult day healthcare, and many others.

4. I am concerned that my mother is not getting the care she needs in her nursing home. What can I do about it?

Ask the nursing home's social worker or Director of Nursing for a care planning meeting, which will give you an opportunity to discuss the issues and find out what steps the facility is taking to ensure good care. JABA's Ombudsman's office can help you prepare for the meeting and may be able to send someone to the meeting, if you desire. Call (434) 817-5241.

5. How do I get information about the different nursing homes and assisted living facilities in our area?
